This is one of my favorite things to eat while watching a movie. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do 🙂
To make the perfect Salmon Sushi Bake, you will need the following ingredients:
- 2 cups of sushi rice
- 4 cups of water
- 1 pound of fresh salmon fillets
- 3 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon of mirin (sweet cooking wine)
- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 avocado, sliced
- 1 cucumber, julienned
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 2 tablespoons of sesame seeds
Instructions:
- Begin by cooking the sushi rice in a rice cooker or on the stovetop according to package instructions.
- While the rice is cooking, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a baking dish by greasing it with oil.
- In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, mirin, sesame oil, salt and pepper. This will be used as a marinade for the salmon.
- Place the salmon fillets in the marinade and let them sit for about 10 minutes.
- Once the rice is cooked, spread it evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Place the marinated salmon fillets on top of the rice and pour any remaining marinade over them.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.
- After 20 minutes, remove the aluminum foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the salmon is fully cooked and flakes easily with a fork.
- While the salmon is baking, prepare your toppings by slicing the avocado and julienning the cucumber and carrot.
- Once the salmon is fully cooked, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
- To serve, top the baked sushi with sliced avocado, cucumber, carrot and sesame seeds.
- Cut into squares and enjoy your delicious Salmon Sushi Bake!
Additional tips:
- For added flavor, you can sprinkle some furikake (Japanese seasoning) on top of the sushi bake before serving.
- You can also add other toppings such as cooked shrimp, crab meat or cream cheese for a variation in taste.
- If you don’t have access to a rice cooker, you can also cook the sushi rice in a pot on the stovetop. Just make sure to use the correct ratio of water to rice and let it simmer for about 15 minutes.
- To save time, you can also use pre-cooked or leftover salmon for this recipe. Simply flake the salmon and mix it into the marinade before placing it on top of the rice.
- Don’t have a baking dish? You can use a casserole dish or even an oven-safe skillet for this recipe.
- If you want to make this dish vegetarian, you can substitute tofu for the salmon and use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth in the sushi rice.
- Experiment with different toppings and seasonings to create your own unique twist on this recipe. Some ideas include adding teriyaki sauce, wasabi mayo or pickled ginger. The possibilities are endless!
- This Salmon Sushi Bake also makes for a great party dish or potluck contribution. Simply double or triple the recipe depending on the number of guests.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply place it back in the oven at 350°F for about 15 minutes.
- Don’t limit yourself to just salmon! You can also use other types of fish such as tuna or even canned salmon for this recipe.
- Make sure to have all your ingredients prepped and ready to go before assembling the sushi bake. This will make the process much smoother and prevent any last minute scrambling.
- If you have a busy week ahead, you can also prepare all the components of the sushi bake in advance and assemble it when ready to serve.
- Want to add some extra greens to your dish? You can mix in some finely chopped seaweed or spinach into the sushi rice for added nutrients and flavor.
- Serve your Salmon Sushi Bake with some soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side for an authentic sushi experience.
- Don’t have time to make your own sushi rice? You can also use pre-made sushi rice from a Japanese or Asian market. Just make sure to follow the instructions on the package for best results.
- Feeling adventurous? Try using different types of rice such as brown or black rice for a healthier twist. You can also experiment with different types of seafood, tofu or vegetables to suit your dietary preferences.
- Remember to have fun and be creative with this recipe. Sushi making may seem daunting at first, but with practice and experimentation, you’ll be a pro in no time!

- Lastly, don’t limit yourself to just salmon filling. You can also try using other types of seafood like tuna or crab, or even mix in some cooked chicken or beef for a non-traditional but equally delicious sushi bake.
